Geomechanics Engineer

People are our most valuable asset.

We are seeking a Geomechanics Engineer to join our R&D team based in the Houston, USA, office. This is a full-time, permanent position. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in geomechanics particularly focusing on hydraulic fracturing modelling, completion design & hydraulic fracturing job optimization.

Key Responsibilities

As a geomechanics engineer, you will provide your expert advice and support to enhance capabilities of existing CMG geomechanics models, develop new products, and provide support to our clients. More specific requirements are as:

  • Advancement of hydraulic fracturing model: utilize your expertise in hydraulic fracturing modeling to optimize HF designs and enhance hydrocarbon recovery while minimizing geomechanically risks.
  • Software Development: Improve parallelization of the code, to run pad-scale (reservoir scale) hydraulic fracturing jobs, model validation and calibrations.
  • Reservoir Injection/ Depletion and Compaction Analysis: Work on our existing GEOMECH program (implement required improvements if needed) to analyze the impact of reservoir injection/depletion induced expansion/compaction on wellbore stability, surface subsidence, faults reactivation, induced micro-seismicity, and overall reservoir performance.
  • Technical Writing: Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate mechanical modeling, simulation
  • Research and Innovation: Stay updated with the latest developments in geomechanics research and contribute to the CMG’s mission of geomechanics developments.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct rigorous validation and testing of the HF software tools to ensure reliability, accuracy, and robustness.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other software developers, geoscientists and engineers within the CMG to integrate geomechanical functionalities into broader simulation frameworks (i.e., unconventional reservoirs, geothermal, CCUS and underground energy storage).

The above statements are intended only to describe the general nature of the job and should not be construed as an all-inclusive list of position responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Education:

Petroleum Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Geology graduate or post-graduate degree.
