Senior Manager, Simulation Development

Computer Modelling Group Ltd. (CMG) is seeking an experienced strategic and collaborative Senior Manager, Simulation Development to join our Calgary or Houston team. Reporting to the VP of Core, this role is responsible for leading the development and delivery of robust simulation software, driving technological innovation, and fostering a culture of excellence within the team.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership:

  • Manage end-to-end product development and release planning, including scheduling, resource allocation, risk management, and delivery.
  • Oversee execution and quality assurance processes to ensure robust and reliable simulation software.
  • Promote and enforce software development best practices, including coding standards, version control, and test-driven development.

 

Strategic Leadership:

  • Build and maintain a pipeline of skilled talent by mentoring team members, fostering knowledge sharing, and implementing structured learning initiatives.
  • Lead the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies to keep the team at the forefront of innovation.
  • Drive proof-of-concept initiatives for new ideas, methodologies, or tools to improve product capabilities or efficiency.
  • Develop strategies to modernize the technology stack and enhance software performance, including efforts in high-performance computing (HPC) and code optimization.

 

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align simulation software development with organizational goals.
  • Represent the organization at industry forums, conferences, and events to showcase the team’s work and stay connected to industry trends.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Petroleum Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience with C/C++/.NET Framework (knowledge of Fortran is a plus).
  • Proficiency with MPI, OpenMP, and GPU software development.
  • 8+ years in managing software development teams, with a focus on planning, execution, and quality assurance.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in high-performance computing (HPC) and code optimization.
  • Experience in technology modernization initiatives.
  • Track record of publishing technical papers, such as SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) papers, or presenting at industry events.
  • Familiarity with advanced simulation techniques and emerging trends in the oil and gas sector.
